WHAT DO I WEAR?

Q: Are we going in with garb again? A: YES! Q: Can I just wear my Brittanis Costume like I wear in game? A: “Yes, and…” The event we are attending is going to be garbed Pre-1600 AD. It is understood that we are on a tour and we do not need to be dressed with historical accuracy. Here are our suggestions:
  • If you play a Fey touched character please do not wear your ears/tail/awesomefunkyfeymakeup.
  • If you wear loads of armor - it’s going to be hot - Safety says, do not wear your armor.
  • If you play an elf - we’ve been advised that your ears will attract looks - and they know we are on a tour. You make the right choice for you.
  • Dwarves please do not wear prosthetic/yarn beards.
  • Consider a hat for shade
  • Please do come garbed - please do not wear street clothes.
  • We are in their world and just as we aim to be coothenic - they are aiming for authentic, let’s help them maintain the vibe they are creating.
  • It will be HOT with not a lot of shade available. Please plan accordingly. (Last year several folks really were wishing they had not worn so many coolthentic layers.)

FOOD & WATER:

Q: Should I bring water? A: YES Q: Should I bring my own drinking vessel? A: YES Q: Will there be food for me to purchase? A:Yes, there are 3 food vendors Q: Can I bring my own food? A: yes you can bring food. If you want to bring food: Please do NOT bring a cooler. A individual insulated lunch box would be appropriate if disguised. (The site is large, plan to carry whatever you bring) Q: Do we need to eat beforehand? A: YES. There will not be a “breakfast” stop on the tour. Q: Will that super cool pub be back from last year? A: Yes! Broken Harp! They are by cash donation only.

ABOUT OUR TOUR & TOUR GUIDES:

Q: Will Kate Sachs or Dean E Mehling get to be guides for us? A: Yes! “Yay!” (Q: Do we know these people or did they randomly volunteer to tour us? Dean shows up on Team Monster to kill your PCs on a fairly regular basis and Caroline and Kate go a ways back! They also were our tour guides last year. We love them lots.) Q: Do we have to stay with our guide or can we stray off the path? A: You have to stay with your guide but where we go is entirely up to group choices! Q: Are there any scheduled events we should anticipate getting to see or participate in? A: There will be rattan and cut & thrust battles and/or training sessions on the battlefield the entire time; there will be likely archery shooting the entire time as well; classes will be held in the class areas. Unfortunately due to this being a TOUR, you will likely not be able to participate in any official activity. As we’re passing by activities, however, you MAY get a chance to request a short demo. Q: Is this an in character event or out of character event. A: This is a social opportunity for players. There is nothing preventing you from role playing either IC or staying OOC.  Let us clarify: No staff will be representing Heads of House. There will be no Watchers present. Also remember: if you want to keep secrets in game, keep those secrets out of game. Q: How do we interact with those we run into? A: Be nice to people and they will be nice to you! (DBAD) Q: Are we in another Kingdom? Are there Kings and Queens? What do we do when we see them? A: From the SCA Event Perspective: We are in the Kingdom of Calontir of the SCA! Our royals are King Matsu and Queen Elena. We can identify them by their shiny crowns and the array of people bowing to them- we should also be respectful to them, making room for them to pass and showing a sign of respect as they pass. They are friendly people and will be happy to have visitors to the site. Q: How does this event relate to the world/map of Brittanis - for game continuity let us clarify: A: “Calontir is a village near the capital city of Albion that once a year is host to a trade meet of merchants from all over Brittanis.” (Of course no SCA attendants of this event will recognize themselves as being part of Brittanis - this will allow us to reference this shopping trip in game with ease.) Q: Are there any scheduled events we should anticipate getting to see or participate in? A: There will be rattan and cut & thrust battles and/or training sessions on the battlefield the entire time; there will be likely archery shooting the entire time as well; classes will be held in the class areas. Unfortunately due to this being a TOUR, you will likely not be able to participate in any official activity. As we’re passing by activities, however, you MAY get a chance to request a short demo. Q: Should we recruit people for the game/Will they try and recruit us for the SCA? A: They will talk up what they love and we should talk up what we love - both to a small degree anyway. We should all feel welcome to talk about Britannis if there’s interest; but maybe not so much as to detract from the tour. (Brittanis Staff will have game business cards -just let us know if you meet someone who’d like one) Q: Can I take pictures? A: Yes! We love pictures! Especially of Dean/Logan! However, if someone requests that you not take their picture, please understand and acquiesce. Also, please do NOT take pictures of vendors stuffs without permission. Q: Who are these folks at Lilies War? What do they do? A: The Kingdom of Calontir is a regional group within the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international organization dedicated to recreating aspects of the Middle Ages. www.calontir.org   Here’s a link for newcomers:http://newcomers.calontir.org/ Specifically, our friends Dean and Kate are associated with: The Barony of Forgotten Sea is the greater Kansas City branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)‚ a nonprofit, educational organization whose members research and re-create the arts and skills of the Middle Ages and Renaissance (600-1600AD). www.bfs-kc.org

SHOPPING:

Q: Shopping! Cash only for shopping or do folks have card readers/squares/etc? A: Most merchants will also take cards! Each one will be different and likely subject to the whims of cell phone signal if they do take cards. Note that the pub only takes cash. Q: Do any shops offer a Brittanis discount? Volume pricing available from any known shops? Is this one if those places where haggling is not only encouraged but expected? A: Haggling is not a good idea unless invited to! Each merchant will be different, some may make a volume discount but they will let you know. Please be advised that some of these merchants are already discounting their prices for this event. Q: Is there an ATM on site. A: No there is not. Q: Does someone have a truck for all the chairs we will collectively buy? A: Yes. Q: What if I anticipate buying a lot of stuff? A: Excellent! Folks are entirely welcome to bring a wagon/cart to help haul their things around site. Q: Will there be anyone there that can purchase things for people who can't make it? A: Please find someone to make purchases for you - staff will not be organizing group purchases. Q: I want to keep track of all the cool vendors here - how will we do that? A: Staff plans, as we did last year to collect contact information from vendors and compile a contact list. (Check out the partial vendor list here: http://www.lilieswar.org/merchants#list) We are so excited to have you with us! This will be a great event!
